19-Year-Old Killed in Shooting at Plantation Park; Suspect Arrested
Deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire at Plantation Park on Tuesday just before 7:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered two victims.
One of the victims, 19-year-old Brian Jones, was transported to a hospital but did not survive. The second victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was hospitalized in stable condition.
Authorities reported that the shooting stemmed from a fight that broke out during a basketball game. “A basketball game should never lead to a senseless act of violence such as this,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister.
Deputies arrested 18-year-old Cabrera Morales on Wednesday and charged him with attempted murder in the first degree and murder in the second degree.
“This arrest cannot undo the tragic loss of life, but I’m proud of our detective’s hard work in finding and arresting this individual quickly,” Chronister stated.
The investigation remains ongoing.
