Bodies of Mother, Infant Daughter, and 6-Year-Old Son Recovered in Lake Michigan Near South Side Beaches

Chicago, IL – September 13, 2025 — A heartbreaking scene unfolded along Chicago’s South Side lakefront this weekend, as authorities confirmed the recovery of three bodies — a woman, her infant daughter, and her 6-year-old son — from Lake Michigan.

The tragic discovery began around 11:30 a.m. Saturday when emergency crews responded to reports of a child in the water near the 5700 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive, close to 59th Street Beach. Divers pulled a baby girl, believed to be around one year old, from the water. Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after, the body of an adult female was recovered near 67th Street Beach, followed by the body of a 6-year-old boy in the same area. Investigators believe the woman was the children’s mother.

The Chicago Police Department and Chicago Fire Department are treating the incident as a death investigation. The victims’ names have not been released pending family notification.

All three were found within close proximity of one another along the South Side beaches. Authorities have not yet disclosed how the victims ended up in the lake.

The investigation remains ongoing.
