Authorities continue to piece together the events leading up to the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, with new details emerging about the alleged shooter’s personal life and possible motives.

According to six sources familiar with the investigation, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson—the man accused of fatally shooting Kirk at Utah Valley University—was in a romantic relationship with his roommate, Lance Twiggs, a transgender individual. Officials believe Robinson may have been motivated, in part, by his belief that Kirk’s outspoken views on transgender issues were “hateful.”

Sources say Twiggs has been fully cooperating with investigators. When first informed of Robinson’s role in the killing, Twiggs reportedly exclaimed: “That’s what happened? Oh my God, no. Here are all the messages.” Those messages allegedly included Robinson’s confession to hiding the rifle used in the shooting in nearby bushes on campus.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed that Robinson’s writings to Twiggs referenced concealing the weapon and showed indications of political anger. Investigators are also examining whether Robinson acted alone or had ties to local activist groups.

The case has sparked fierce political debate, with conservatives calling Robinson an “unhinged leftist,” while others note his conservative family background and MAGA ties.

At this stage, authorities stress that Twiggs is not facing charges and remains a cooperating witness. The investigation into Robinson’s motive, affiliations, and support network is ongoing.
