Gentry, AR – September 10, 2025 — The community of Gentry is mourning the loss of Dean Shafer, who passed away on September 10, 2025. Dean was a cherished friend, a devoted husband, and a cornerstone of the NWA Gem & Mineral Society, where he was a founding member and a guiding light for decades.
Those who knew Dean remember him as a quiet, gentle soul with a heart full of kindness. Though reserved, he had a gift for sharing his passion for geology. “He loved talking rocks,” one member recalled, “and could spend hours teaching others about minerals, fossils, and the beauty of the earth.” His enthusiasm not only deepened the knowledge of those around him but also fostered a welcoming environment that turned the club into a close-knit community.
Beyond his love for minerals, Dean will be remembered for the warmth and humility he carried in every interaction. His presence was steady, his kindness unwavering, and his dedication to his family and friends deeply inspiring.
