Delta State University Student Demartravion “Trey” Reed Found Dead on Campus

CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State University is mourning the loss of Demartravion “Trey” Reed, a 21-year-old student from Grenada, Mississippi, whose body was discovered on campus Monday morning. Reed, a Black male student, was found hanging from a tree near the pickleball courts around 7:00 a.m., prompting an immediate response from university authorities and local law enforcement.

University Police Chief Mike Peeler confirmed the discovery and stated that foul play is not suspected at this time. The Bolivar County Coroner’s Office has taken custody of Reed’s body, and an autopsy is scheduled to determine the official cause of death.

In response to the tragedy, Delta State University canceled all classes and Centennial events scheduled for Monday, allowing students, faculty, and staff time to process the loss. The university emphasized that counseling and support services are being made available to those affected by the incident.
