Eagle Mountain Remembers Todd Black, Wildlife Biologist and Conservation Advocate

Eagle Mountain is mourning the loss of Todd Black, the city’s Wildlife Biologist and Open Space Manager, who passed away last week at his home in Nibley, Utah, at the age of 59.

For the past three and a half years, Todd dedicated his time and expertise to preserving open spaces and protecting wildlife in Eagle Mountain. He became a familiar face in the community through his Living with Wildlife video series and monthly newsletter column, where he helped residents connect with the natural world around them. With a unique ability to blend knowledge with storytelling, Todd inspired countless people to better appreciate and protect the environment.

His conservation work extended beyond Eagle Mountain, with the models and strategies he implemented being cited by cities across the country. Colleagues and residents alike admired his deep expertise, but also his down-to-earth communication style. Todd avoided technical jargon, choosing instead to speak as a neighbor and friend, making his passion for deer, birds, pollinators, and all wildlife both relatable and engaging.

Those who knew Todd personally remember his humor, wit, and the warmth he brought to every conversation. He had a rare gift for blending science with storytelling, leaving an enduring legacy of conservation and education.

Last week, Eagle Mountain lost more than a biologist—it lost a steward of open space, a defender of wildlife, and a beloved voice for nature.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Todd’s family, friends, and the entire community who were touched by his life and work.
