Tampa, Florida — Testimony has begun in the trial of five men charged in the August 22, 2021, drive-by shooting that claimed the life of 4-year-old Suni Bell.

Authorities say Suni was riding in the backseat of a vehicle with her family when three cars pulled up and fired approximately 40 shots. The attack tragically killed Suni, while her mother and uncle survived the barrage of gunfire.

A month after the shooting, police arrested Zvante Sampson, Quandarious Hammond, Jaylin Bedward, James Denson, and Andrew Thompson. Each faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder for Suni’s death and attempted first-degree murder related to other victims in the incident.

Prosecutors have described the shooting as a coordinated and deliberate attack, presenting surveillance footage from the area as key evidence. Defense attorneys have urged jurors to evaluate each defendant’s actions individually, emphasizing that “the story is in the details.”

The case has captured widespread attention, highlighting the devastating impact of gun violence on innocent lives. The trial seeks justice for Suni Bell, whose life was tragically cut short at just four years old, and aims to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
