Two Killed in High-Speed Crash on Weber Road and Tripoli Street in Corpus Christi
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A violent early-morning collision on Sunday claimed the lives of two people — Melinda Portales Garcia, 50, and Rene Govea Sr., 46 — after a Cadillac Escalade and a BMW collided at high speed near Weber Road and Tripoli Street.
Authorities say the crash happened around 6:30 a.m. when the Escalade, reportedly traveling at a very high rate of speed, struck the BMW before crashing into a utility pole. The impact split the pole in half and scattered debris across the roadway.
Garcia, a passenger in the Escalade, was ejected from the vehicle and fatally injured. She is remembered as a devoted mother, survived by several children now mourning her sudden loss. Family members have asked the community for prayers and support.
Govea, who was driving the BMW, was pronounced dead at the scene despite bystanders rushing to provide aid. Known as a passionate Philadelphia Eagles fan, he is remembered as a loving father of multiple children.
The female driver of the Escalade survived the crash and may face intoxication manslaughter charges pending toxicology results. Police continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the deadly wreck.
As both families grieve, community members are urged to drive responsibly and honor the lives lost in this tragic incident.
