Justice for Christa: Houston Man Indicted for Capital Murder in Wife’s Death

HOUSTON, Texas — A Harris County grand jury has indicted 38-year-old Lee Mongerson Gilley on a charge of capital murder in the death of his pregnant wife, Christa Gilley.

On October 7, 2024, Lee called 911, claiming Christa was suicidal and had overdosed. He told dispatchers she had taken her own life. Investigators later determined, however, that Christa had been strangled to death. Prosecutors allege Lee attempted to stage her death as a suicide.

The couple’s two children were inside the home at the time of the killing. Authorities arrested Lee shortly after the incident. He was released on a $1 million bond and has since pleaded not guilty.

Christa’s family has spoken out about their ongoing grief, describing her as a joyful, loving mother who was excited to welcome her third child. They say her loss has left a permanent void and that they remain committed to seeking justice on her behalf while also caring for her surviving children.

Legal proceedings in the case continue. A family court hearing is scheduled for October 1, where the defense is expected to push for supervised visitation rights for Lee with his children. The prosecution, meanwhile, continues working through discovery ahead of trial. A status hearing is set for November 12, and the case is tentatively scheduled to go to trial on February 23, 2026.

Christa’s family and supporters have rallied under the banner “Justice for Christa”, vowing to honor her memory and fight for accountability.
