Lisburn Community in Shock Following Murder of Barry Furfey
Lisburn, Northern Ireland – September 16, 2025 – Police have confirmed that the 42-year-old man who died in Lisburn early Monday has been identified as Barry Furfey. Emergency services were called to an apartment on Wardsborough Road around 1 a.m., where Furfey was found with critical injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Two individuals, a 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, have been arrested and remain in police custody as inquiries continue. Detective Inspector Jill Angus of the PSNI expressed her condolences to Furfey’s family, emphasizing the ongoing investigation and urging anyone with information to contact authorities.
Local officials voiced their shock and sorrow at the incident. Sinn Féin councillor Declan Lynch called the murder “horrifying” and urged residents to allow police to carry out their investigation without interference. Alliance Party councillor Nicola Parker added that the community is deeply distressed but can find strength in unity during this difficult time.
Police have increased their presence in the Wardsborough area, maintaining cordons as detectives work to determine the circumstances surrounding Furfey’s death. The PSNI continues to appeal to anyone with information to assist in the investigation, citing reference number 29 of 15/09/25.
The tragic killing has left the Lisburn community grappling with grief and disbelief as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to Furfey’s death.
