Officials Identify Victim in Fatal Devil’s Lake State Park Crash
BARABOO, Wis. — Authorities have released the name of the man killed in a single-vehicle crash at Devil’s Lake State Park on Saturday evening.
The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday that 24-year-old Jamison M. Ruston of Madison died when the car he was driving left the roadway and struck several trees.
Investigators say Ruston was driving a 2020 Ford Mustang on the park’s one-way northbound exit road, just south of County Highway DL in the Town of Baraboo. Around 6:30 p.m., Ruston was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when he failed to make a right-hand curve.
The Mustang veered off the road to the left, colliding with multiple large trees before coming to a stop against one. Ruston was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two passengers in the vehicle — a 22-year-old Madison man and a 24-year-old woman from Brillion — were taken to a regional hospital for treatment. Their current conditions have not been released.
The crash prompted multiple emergency calls to the Sauk County Communications Center, with law enforcement, EMS, and rescue crews responding to the scene.
The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident, including the factors that may have contributed to the crash.
Ruston’s death marks a tragic loss for his family, friends, and community. Authorities are urging drivers to remain cautious when traveling through Devil’s Lake State Park, an area known for its winding roads and heavy weekend traffic.
