Outrage After Man Celebrates Deadly York County Police Shooting
NORTH CODORUS TOWNSHIP, PA — The community is reeling after Christopher Thomas Gebhart was reportedly seen celebrating the tragic shooting of law enforcement officers in York County, Pennsylvania. The violent confrontation unfolded Wednesday afternoon near 1879 Harr Road in Spring Grove, when police were serving a warrant.
During the incident, five officers were shot, with at least three losing their lives and others critically injured. Emergency responders, including medevac helicopters, quickly transported the wounded to trauma centers. WellSpan York Hospital confirmed multiple patients in serious condition and heightened security measures while the investigation remains ongoing.
The suspect was later found deceased from a gunshot wound. Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. Austin Davis urged the public to support the affected officers and their families, while Spring Grove School District enacted a temporary shelter-in-place order, clarifying that no students or staff were directly involved.
Amid the tragedy, Gebhart’s reported comments mocking and celebrating the deaths and injuries of officers have drawn widespread condemnation. Law enforcement and community members labeled his behavior “vile” and “deeply hurtful” to the families and colleagues of the fallen officers.
The York County Office of Emergency Management stressed that the investigation is ongoing and urged the public to avoid speculation. The shocking incident has left the community grieving and shocked, coming just months after the UPMC Memorial Hospital shooting in February 2025, marking it as one of the deadliest law enforcement tragedies in recent York County history.
