Arkansas State Police Identify Man Killed in Craighead County Crash
CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, Ark. — Arkansas State Police have confirmed the identity of the man who died in a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning east of Monette. The victim has been identified as 64-year-old George Berg of Highland.
Authorities said the crash happened on a rural highway just after sunrise. According to preliminary reports, Berg was driving eastbound when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a ditch. Emergency crews responded quickly, but Berg was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and officials have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to veer off the road. Investigators are working to determine whether speed, road conditions, or a possible medical emergency may have played a role.
The accident temporarily closed the roadway as troopers documented the scene and crews worked to clear the area. Traffic was redirected for several hours before the road was reopened to drivers.
Berg was a longtime resident of Highland, known in his community for his friendly nature and steady presence. News of his sudden death has left family and friends in shock as they begin to grieve the loss.
Funeral arrangements for Berg are expected to be announced by his family in the coming days.
The investigation remains ongoing. Arkansas State Police have urged anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information to contact their department.
