Mass Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, 5 Injured on Indianapolis’ Northwest Side
A mass shooting on the northwest side of Indianapolis early Sunday morning left two people dead and five others wounded, according to Indianapolis Metro Police.
The gunfire erupted around 2:15 a.m. in the 6800 block of Shore Terrace, just north of the 38th Street exit on Interstate 465. Police say six men and one woman were struck by bullets during the incident.
Two adult victims died from their injuries. Of the five survivors, three remain in critical condition while two others are described as “serious but stable.” Police said three of the victims were taken from the scene by ambulance, while one drove to the hospital and another sought help at a nearby fire station.
The shooting occurred outside in a parking lot, and investigators are still working to determine a motive. Officers have not said whether they believe the attack was targeted.
A large police and emergency response surrounded the scene in the aftermath, with authorities urging the public to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
IMPD Chief Chris Bailey condemned the violence, calling the loss of life “heartbreaking.” He noted that detectives have been working nonstop through a violent weekend to track down suspects in multiple shootings across the city.
“This violence shakes our sense of safety, but IMPD remains fully engaged,” Bailey said.
