Accidental Death of 8-Year-Old Boy in St. Louis County

St. Louis County, MO (September 22, 2025) — Detectives with the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons are investigating the accidental death of an 8-year-old boy in North County.

Officers from the North County Precinct were dispatched around 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, to the 11300 block of Larimore Road for a report of a sick case. When officers arrived, they found the child unresponsive.

The victim has been identified as 8-year-old Cortez Williams, Jr. According to investigators, Cortez had been playing on a backyard swing set when the structure collapsed, pinning him under a crossbar. Family members were able to free him, and at first, he appeared to have only suffered minor injuries.

Tragically, Cortez’s condition quickly worsened, and he became unresponsive. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities described the incident as a heartbreaking accident. No foul play is suspected, though detectives continue to review the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

Neighbors and community members expressed shock upon hearing the news, offering condolences to the grieving family. “It’s devastating,” one resident said. “No parent should ever have to go through something like this.”

The St. Louis County Police Department stated that support services are being offered to the family during this difficult time. Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
