Former Employee Dies by Suicide After Shooting at Amazon Warehouse in Columbus, Georgia
An early-morning shooting outside an Amazon warehouse in East Columbus ended in tragedy Monday after the suspected gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers responded around 4:30 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 5800 block of Osceola Court. Investigators said the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Myles Belyue, was outside the facility firing multiple rounds at the building while employees were inside.
When officers arrived about 15 minutes later, they confronted Belyue in front of the warehouse. After a brief standoff, police reported that Belyue turned the gun on himself and died before he could be taken into custody.
Authorities confirmed no employees were injured, although several rounds struck the building. By mid-morning, reporters noted at least a dozen visible bullet holes in the facility’s windows.
Investigators revealed that Belyue had previously worked at the Amazon location but was terminated earlier this month. While police have not disclosed a motive, they are reviewing his employment history and personal circumstances as part of the ongoing investigation.
The incident prompted a swift response from multiple law enforcement agencies. Amazon officials have not yet released a statement but are cooperating with authorities.
Police stressed that there is no ongoing threat to the community but urged anyone with additional information to contact investigators.
The case remains under active review by the Columbus Division of Police and partnering agencies.
