Shooting at Amazon Facility in Columbus Ends in Suspect’s Death
Authorities in Columbus, Georgia, are investigating an early-morning shooting outside an Amazon facility that left the suspected gunman dead. Police confirmed that 22-year-old Myles Belyue was identified as the individual who opened fire on the building from outside.
According to officials, the incident unfolded when Belyue arrived at the facility and began shooting toward the building. Employees inside quickly took cover, and emergency calls were placed to local authorities. Responding officers confronted the suspect shortly after the gunfire began.
Investigators say that during the confrontation with police, Belyue turned the gun on himself, ending the incident before officers were able to take further action. No employees or officers were reported injured, and authorities have since secured the scene to ensure the safety of those working at the facility.
Law enforcement officials are working to determine a possible motive for the shooting. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage, gathering evidence, and speaking with witnesses who were present at the time. The Columbus Police Department has stated that while the investigation is ongoing, there is currently no threat to the public.
The incident has raised concerns about workplace safety, though Amazon confirmed that all employees at the facility are safe and accounted for. Company officials are cooperating fully with law enforcement and have offered counseling and support services to workers affected by the event.
As the investigation moves forward, police continue to appeal for anyone with additional information to contact local authorities.
