University of Alabama Employee Rimon Garcia Found Dead in Tuscaloosa Neighborhood
Tuscaloosa, AL – Authorities are investigating the death of University of Alabama employee Rimon Garcia, who was found Monday morning in the Pinehurst neighborhood.
Police say officers from both the Tuscaloosa Police Department and the University of Alabama Police Department responded around 9:00 a.m. to a medical call at a residence on Pinehurst Drive. When they arrived, they discovered Garcia, who had reportedly been operating lawn equipment prior to his death. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences requested that the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) assist with the case. While the VCU typically handles homicides and suspicious deaths, it is also standard protocol for the unit to respond to any unattended death where no medical personnel are present.
Capt. Jack Kennedy of the VCU stated that investigators found no immediate signs of foul play. He emphasized that their involvement does not necessarily indicate a crime but is part of standard investigative procedures.
“In suspected non-criminal cases like this one, the VCU generally does not release public statements in order to protect the privacy of the deceased and their family,” Kennedy explained. “However, due to the significant public interest and social media attention surrounding Mr. Garcia’s position with the university, an exception was made.”
Authorities have not released further information. The investigation remains active, but officials stressed that foul play is not suspected.
