The community of Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland, is mourning the devastating loss of 15-month-old Emily Whinnery, who tragically passed away after a choking incident at a property in Cookstown on March 9.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, Emily could not be saved. Police have confirmed that inquiries into the “sudden death” are ongoing.
Emily’s grieving family shared a touching tribute in a death notice, stating, “Baby Emily Whinnery passed into God’s Heavenly Kingdom.” She is remembered as a “beloved daughter, sister, and granddaughter” who brought immense joy to those around her. The tribute continues, “Forever loved and missed by the entire Whinnery, Holdsworth, Donaghy, and Gordon Family Circle. The smallest of feet have the power to leave big and everlasting footprints on our hearts.”
The tragedy has left the local community in shock. Ulster Unionist Councillor Trevor Wilson described it as “every parent’s worst nightmare” and expressed his deep condolences, saying, “The people of Cookstown are in complete shock. It’s absolutely terrible.”
Heartfelt messages have poured in from locals, with one resident stating, “It’s hit Cookstown as a whole. May God be watching over the entire family circle.” Another added, “There are no words for a loss like this. May little Emily rest in peace with the angels.”
Mid Ulster Councillor Kerri Martin also expressed sorrow over the “awful” loss, acknowledging that the region has recently faced multiple tragedies, particularly involving young lives. “My thoughts and prayers, and everyone in Cookstown’s thoughts and prayers, are with everyone involved,” she said.
