Remembering Sherwyn “Sheggs” Smith: A Lifelong Rugby Man
The Llangennech RFC community is mourning the loss of one of its most dedicated and beloved figures, Sherwyn “Sheggs” Smith, who sadly passed away this morning. Known for his passion for rugby, his tireless commitment to coaching, and his warm, genuine character, Sherwyn leaves behind a legacy that will long be remembered both on and off the field.
Sheggs played well into his forties, embodying the spirit of the game and setting an example for younger teammates. His deep love for rugby continued far beyond his playing days, as he threw himself wholeheartedly into coaching. From Minis and Juniors to Youth teams and the club’s Second XV, The Pitmen, Sherwyn nurtured countless players through the ranks. He also proudly coached the Stradey Sospans, extending his knowledge and infectious enthusiasm to even more of the rugby family.
Even in the face of challenges, Sherwyn remained committed to his coaching duties until the very end. His positivity, energy, and work ethic were unmatched, making him not only a respected coach but also a mentor and friend to many. Those who knew him describe him as a kind-hearted man whose encouragement and passion left a lasting impact on every team he touched.
The club and community extend their deepest sympathies to his wife Tracey, and his children Dylan and Bethan, during this heartbreaking time.
Rest in peace, Sheggs. You will be missed, but your legacy as a true #BoisYLlan will live on.
