Woman Charged After Three Dead Infants Found in Pennsylvania Home
Authorities in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, have charged a 39-year-old woman after the remains of three infants were discovered in her former residence.
On Sept. 13, Pennsylvania State Police responded to the home after the property owner, who had recently evicted the tenant, noticed a foul odor while cleaning. Inside a closet, he reportedly found a trash bag containing the body of an infant and contacted police.
Investigators searching the house later uncovered two plastic totes stored in the attic. Each tote allegedly contained the remains of another infant.
The former tenant, identified as Jessica Mauthe, allegedly confessed during questioning that she had given birth to the children while living in the residence. She told police she delivered the first baby about a year ago in the bathroom. According to her account, the newborn was making noises when she removed it from the toilet, but she then wrapped the child in towels “until it stopped making noises” before placing the body in the closet.
Mauthe reportedly admitted to giving birth to two additional infants afterward and placing their remains inside the attic storage bins.
She has been charged with criminal homicide and abuse of a corpse. Authorities also confirmed that Mauthe has two surviving children, ages 6 and 8.
The investigation remains ongoing as police and the Armstrong County District Attorney’s Office work to determine the timeline of the births and circumstances surrounding the deaths.
