36-Year-Old Justin Mattingly Dies in Shooting Outside Tulsa QuikTrip

Tulsa, OK – September 21, 2025 – Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that took place late Sunday night in the parking lot of a QuikTrip gas station at 220 N. Gilcrease Museum Road.

Police responded around 11:20 p.m. following multiple reports of gunfire. Upon arriving, officers found 36-year-old Justin Mattingly with a gunshot wound to the head. Despite emergency efforts to save him, Mattingly was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators reported that the shooting stemmed from a confrontation between Mattingly and another man. Surveillance footage reviewed by detectives shows the altercation beginning inside the convenience store, where the suspect reportedly assaulted Mattingly, who responded with verbal threats. The dispute later continued into the parking lot.

According to authorities, Mattingly and a friend, both riding motorcycles, approached the suspect’s vehicle at a gas pump. During the encounter, Mattingly kicked the suspect’s car door before leaving. At that point, the suspect, still in the car, fired a single shot, striking Mattingly in the head.

The alleged shooter was detained and questioned but has since been released. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

Detectives are gathering evidence and witness accounts to submit to the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether charges will be filed. Officials emphasized the case’s complexity and confirmed that the investigation remains active.
