Roommate Dispute Ends in Deadly Shooting
A tragic confrontation between two roommates in St. Louis has left one man dead and another facing serious charges. Authorities confirmed that 25-year-old Caleb Murphy has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action following the fatal shooting of his roommate, 25-year-old Jacob Volkert.
The incident occurred Sunday evening at a residence in the 4300 block of Eminence Boulevard, where both men lived. According to court documents, the dispute began when Volkert allegedly refused to leave Murphy’s room. Investigators say Murphy admitted that Volkert was unarmed and made no threats against him. Despite this, Murphy retrieved a firearm and shot Volkert as he stood in the doorway.
Police arrested Murphy the following day. He is currently being held at the St. Louis County Jail on a $2 million cash-only bond.
