Human Skeletal Remains Found in Trash Bag Near JFK Airport

Queens, NY – A shocking discovery was made Monday morning when sanitation workers found human skeletal remains stuffed inside a garbage bag near John F. Kennedy International Airport, police said.

According to the NYPD, officers responded just before 8 a.m. to a 911 call reporting possible human remains near Brookville Boulevard and 149th Avenue in Springfield Gardens, on the edge of Idlewild Park.

Sanitation workers had initially loaded the bag into their truck when they noticed a foul odor. Concerned, they stopped and inspected the bag, which appeared wrapped in tape and rope. Realizing it could contain human remains, the workers immediately contacted authorities.

Police and EMS crews later confirmed the remains appeared to belong to a woman. Sources told reporters the body had been concealed inside a garbage bag, wrapped in a blue tarp, and tied with ropes before being discarded.

Idlewild Park, located along the northern perimeter of JFK Airport, is known as one of the largest remaining saltwater marshes in Queens. The discovery has unsettled the local community, raising concerns about how the body ended up abandoned in the area.

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner is working to confirm the identity of the victim and determine her cause of death.

Authorities say the investigation remains active, with detectives reviewing evidence and canvassing the surrounding neighborhood for leads. Police have not released additional details.
