Chicago Woman Killed in Englewood Garage Fire Identified as Antoinette Congo

A woman found dead inside a burning garage in Englewood early Thursday has been identified as 36-year-old Antoinette Congo, authorities confirmed.

Firefighters were called to the 6500 block of South Damen Avenue around 12:30 a.m. on September 11 to extinguish a blaze. After putting out the fire, crews discovered Congo’s body inside. Police said she had been shot multiple times, including in the back of the head, before the fire was intentionally set.

According to investigators, evidence at the scene indicated the fire was started using an accelerant. A witness told detectives they saw a white work van with a ladder on top near the garage around the time of the incident. Several individuals were reportedly seen pouring liquid at the base of the structure before flames broke out.

Congo, a mother of three, leaves behind young children now facing life without her. Family members described her as a devoted mother and expressed outrage at the brutality of the crime.

No suspects have been arrested, and the case is being investigated as a homicide. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Chicago police.

The investigation remains ongoing.
