Kirsten Sevig Mourns the Peaceful Passing of Her Beloved Mother

The Sevig family is mourning the loss of their beloved mother, who passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8th, surrounded by her husband and daughters, Kirsten and her sister.

Her final days were marked by dignity, humor, and love. Even through the challenges of hospice, she radiated positivity—devoting what little energy she had to expressing gratitude, sharing laughter, and offering joy to those around her. Family members described her as “Else Goodness Extract™️,” a pure concentration of her finest qualities: warmth, kindness, humor, and an unsinkable spirit.

In her final chapter, the Sevigs found strength in one another. Kirsten and her sister cared for their mother like nurses, while their father’s devotion stood as a moving example of enduring love. Moments of laughter filled the home—even in grief—as the family carried out her wish to donate her body to the University of Minnesota Medical School Anatomy Bequest Program.

Remarkably, her passing fell on the 55th anniversary of her arrival in the United States from Norway. She had hoped to celebrate the milestone with a party, but instead, family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 20th at 1 p.m. at Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, with a reception to follow.

Her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched, in the laughter she inspired, and in the deep love of her family, who call her their greatest blessing.
