Two Men Found Dead in Separate Hanging Incidents in Mississippi; Officials Urge Caution Amid Rumors
Mississippi is reeling after two men were found dead in separate hanging incidents on Monday, one in Bolivar County and the other in Vicksburg.
Authorities confirm that 20-year-old Trey Reed, a Black man, was discovered on the campus of Delta State University. His death has sparked widespread speculation online, with rumors circulating that his body showed signs of broken bones. The Bolivar County Coroner has clarified that those reports do not appear accurate. Reed’s body has been sent for autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
In a separate case, 31-year-old Cory Zukatis was found dead in Vicksburg. Social media misinformation quickly spread, claiming Zukatis was a young Black man. Officials have since confirmed that Zukatis was white.
Both cases are under active investigation, and law enforcement has not suggested any connection between the two deaths. Officials are urging the public to refrain from spreading unverified information as families and communities grieve.
“Our thoughts are with the loved ones of these two men,” one official said, noting that further updates will be released as autopsy results and investigative findings become available.
