Fourth Shooting in Four Months Leaves One Dead on Binford Drive
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A deadly shooting Tuesday morning marked the fourth on Binford Drive in just four months, raising concerns about violence in the area. Huntsville Police say officers responded around 10 a.m. to the 200 block of Binford Drive, near the L.R. Patton Apartment Complex, where they found two men shot. One victim died at the scene, while the other was hospitalized. The victims’ names have not been released, and no suspect information has been provided.
District 4 City Councilman Bill Kling acknowledged the seriousness of the situation but stressed that Huntsville is not generally a violent city. “When something like this happens, this is very serious, very big news. We’re not like Birmingham, you know, where stuff like this happens just about every couple of days,” Kling said.
The Huntsville Housing Authority, which oversees the complex, implemented a curfew in June to curb crime, and HPD has stepped up patrols. Still, this latest shooting occurred in broad daylight. Kling remains hopeful that upcoming development — including the Mill Creek project with a Flagg grocery store and new housing — will help revitalize the neighborhood and reduce violence.
