High School Golf Prodigy, 17, Dies Suddenly After Collapsing During Homecoming Prank

Eastman, GA — The Dodge County community is mourning the sudden and tragic death of Hadden Kelly, a 17-year-old junior at Dodge County High School and a standout golf prodigy, who collapsed during a homecoming prank early Monday morning.

According to officials, Kelly and friends were toilet-papering a home — a common homecoming tradition — when he was found unresponsive in the yard. Despite immediate efforts to revive him, he was later pronounced dead.

His great-uncle, Dodge County Coroner Joe Smith, confirmed the heartbreaking news and said the cause of death remains unclear pending autopsy results.

A Star Athlete With a Bright Future

Kelly was widely regarded as the best golfer at Dodge County High School, earning multiple top-10 finishes in Georgia State Golf Association tournaments and working daily at the local golf club.

“If he didn’t pass, I swear he would’ve gone pro,” Smith told 41 NBC. “He never met a stranger, talked to everybody. A great kid.”

Kelly’s coach and teammates described him as not only the team’s top performer but also a source of encouragement and positivity.

“Hadden was our team leader, always encouraging and forever speaking positive words to all around him,” the team wrote in a Facebook tribute. “He so hoped that our golf team would keep improving and desperately sought after participating in the State tournament. He was our top performing golfer.”

    Community in Mourning

The news has devastated classmates, teachers, and community members alike. Dodge County High School issued a statement expressing grief and offering prayers for the family:

“There are no words to express the sadness that our DCHS family feels for the loss of junior Hadden Kelly. Please join us in prayer for his family, friends, and our DCHS family. Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.

    Legacy of Leadership and Kindness

Though only 17, Kelly was remembered as a charismatic leader, an ambitious competitor, and a young man who always stayed behind after competitions to cheer on his teammates.

“Hadden LOVED golf and the Golf Team surely loves Hadden,” the team wrote.

His sudden death has left a deep void in the school and community, with friends and loved ones holding onto memories of a talented, supportive, and kindhearted teen whose future once seemed limitless.

NORTH CODORUS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A warrant service in rural York County turned deadly Wednesday afternoon when gunfire erupted at a home on the 1800 block of Harr Road.

Authorities say five law enforcement officers were shot. At least one officer has died, three are in grave condition, and two others are being treated at local hospitals. The suspect, who was the subject of the warrant, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.

The shooting started around 2:10 p.m. and triggered a massive emergency response, including Pennsylvania State Police, county deputies, municipal police, and EMS crews. Medevac helicopters transported critically injured officers to trauma centers.

Nearby Spring Grove schools were briefly locked down as a precaution. Officials stressed that students and staff were safe and not directly involved.

Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. Austin Davis called for prayers for the wounded officers. The Mexican Consulate in Philadelphia said it was monitoring the situation because of the area’s large population of migrant farm workers.

“This is a heartbreaking day for law enforcement and the York County community,” an emergency management official said.

JUST IN: A 40-year-old Chicago father died in a tragic crash involving a theft crew fleeing a $700,000 “smash-and-grab” at a Louis Vuitton store.

The victim, Mark Arceta of Skokie, was driving to his final hospital shift before going on paternity leave when a getaway vehicle, fleeing the burglary, collided with his car.

The robbery occurred early Thursday morning on Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile. Thieves used a stolen pickup to crash into the store’s frontage, grabbed merchandise, then fled in several vehicles. One of those vehicles, a black Kia allegedly driven by 30-year-old Dejuan Wingard, was racing through traffic at around 77 mph when it struck Arceta’s Honda CR-V at the intersection of Michigan and Ohio Streets. Arceta was following traffic properly when the Kia slammed into him.

Arceta was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital but didn’t survive. His son was born the next day. His family describe him as deeply excited about the baby and looking forward to being there for his children.

Seven men have since been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, burglary, and retail theft. Authorities said the smash-and-grab was a coordinated theft, stealing nearly $700,000 in goods. Some of the suspects remain hospitalized; others are in custody awaiting court hearings.
