Cause of Death Released After Man Found Unresponsive on Universal Epic Universe Roller Coaster
ORLANDO, Fla. — Officials have released the cause of death for a man who was found unresponsive on a roller coaster at Universal’s Epic Universe theme park in Orlando.
According to the Orange and Osceola counties’ chief medical examiner, 32-year-old Kevin Rodriguez Zavala died from “multiple blunt impact injuries.” The manner of death has been ruled an accident.
Zavala was discovered unresponsive Wednesday on the Stardust Racers roller coaster in Celestial Park, one of the park’s newest thrill rides featuring dual tracks that race and weave around each other. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
A Universal spokesperson expressed the company’s condolences, stating, “We are devastated by this tragic event and extend our sincerest sympathies to the guest’s loved ones. We are fully cooperating with Orange County and the ongoing investigation.”
The Stardust Racers ride remains closed as investigators continue their work. Park officials have not yet announced when it will reopen.
Epic Universe, which opened in May, features five immersive worlds filled with rides, attractions, shows, bars, and restaurants. The incident has raised questions about safety measures on high-speed thrill rides, though authorities have not released further details about what may have led to the fatal injuries.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Zavala’s death is ongoing.
