CHICAGO (WLS) — An 8-year-old girl was injured Sunday afternoon after being shot inside a South Side home, according to Chicago police.

The incident occurred just before 2 p.m. in the 1400-block of West 83rd Street in the Gresham neighborhood.

Authorities said the child was struck in the finger and was transported to Christ Hospital, where she was listed in good condition.

Details surrounding what led up to the shooting remain unclear. Police have not said whether the girl was the intended target or if the gunfire came from inside or outside the residence.

Very Shocking’: Five People Shot in Rocky Mount Neighborhood, One Dead

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A quiet Sunday morning turned deadly after a shooting left one person dead and four others injured in a Rocky Mount neighborhood.

Police said the gunfire erupted around 6 a.m. in the 2100 block of Benvenue Road, drawing a heavy response with more than 10 squad cars swarming the scene in front of a single-story home.

Officers confirmed five people were shot. Four were transported to a hospital for treatment, while the fifth victim died from their injuries. The conditions of the surviving victims have not been released.

Neighbor Debra Simmons said she woke up to flashing lights filling her bedroom window. “There were folks all in the yard, and I went outside to see, and there was I think every policeman in the town of Rocky Mount out there,” she told WRAL.

Simmons, who described the neighborhood as “very safe,” was stunned by the violence. “It’s a very safe apartment complex. [I’ve] never had any trouble here whatsoever with anything. Very shocking,” she said.

Another resident said he heard shouting and a fight before the gunfire, and worried stray bullets could have struck his window.

By midday, yellow crime scene tape still cordoned off the yard while investigators worked. Police urged residents to avoid the area and asked anyone with information to call Rocky Mount Police at 252-972-1411.

    The investigation is ongoing.

Charlie Kirk Funeral Draws Over 200,000 to Arizona Stadium as Trump, Vance and Others Speak

More than 200,000 people packed State Farm Stadium and nearby venues Sunday for a memorial service honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot on Sept. 10. Thousands more waited outside in the heat; many had arrived before dawn to secure spots or parked miles away and walked to the site.

The somber, heavily attended event featured high-profile speakers including President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Kirk’s widow Erika Kirk. Remarks ranged from heartfelt tributes to rousing political calls, reflecting Kirk’s influence in conservative youth politics.

Moments of levity broke through the grief: Donald Trump Jr. elicited laughter with a spot-on impersonation of his father, lightening the mood briefly for the packed audience. In a more reflective moment, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recalled a conversation with Kirk about fear and conviction, saying, “Charlie died with his boots on,” and framing Kirk’s death in the context of his public mission.

Organizers and security officials said the event was a major logistical undertaking, designated a high-level federal security event, with Secret Service and local agencies coordinating to protect attendees. TPUSA helped manage on-site arrangements; thousands filled the stadium while overflow crowds watched in adjacent arenas and outdoor viewing areas.

Speakers and attendees repeatedly called for unity among supporters while condemning political violence. As the service concluded, many lingered at the memorials and makeshift shrines outside the venue, leaving flowers and messages in tribute to Kirk’s memory.
