Young Cyclist Killed in Cork City Collision with Truck
Cork, Ireland – A young woman in her 20s has tragically died after being struck by a truck while cycling in Cork City on Thursday evening, September 18, 2025. The incident occurred shortly after 6:15 p.m. at the busy junction of Albert Street and Albert Road.
Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene, but despite their efforts, the cyclist was pronounced dead. Gardaí have confirmed that the truck driver remained at the scene and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
The fatal crash is the third cyclist death in Ireland within the past week, highlighting growing concerns about road safety for vulnerable road users. Just days earlier, two cyclists lost their lives in separate collisions in County Meath and County Carlow on September 12.
Local residents and cycling advocacy groups have expressed sorrow and outrage over the string of recent tragedies, calling for stronger safety measures, improved cycling infrastructure, and increased awareness among motorists. Campaigners have long argued that Irish roads remain hazardous for cyclists, particularly in busy urban areas.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage from the area at the time to come forward. The victim’s identity has not yet been released as family members are being notified.
This heartbreaking loss adds to a growing toll of lives lost on Irish roads in 2025, intensifying calls for urgent action to protect cyclists and prevent further tragedies.
