Veteran reggae artist Colvin ‘Cocoa Tea’ Scott has passed away at the age of 65. He reportedly died early Tuesday morning in a Florida hospital after battling an illness for some time.
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness paid tribute to Cocoa Tea, acknowledging his global influence and contributions to reggae music.
“I extend condolences to the family, friends, and supporters of Calvin George Scott, affectionately known as Cocoa Tea. His smooth vocals and compelling lyrics gave us timeless classics like Rocking Dolly and I Lost My Sonia, songs that have become anthems in our cultural landscape,” Holness shared on X (formerly Twitter).
He further praised Cocoa Tea’s kindness and generosity, noting that his legacy goes beyond music. “As we mourn his passing, let us celebrate the rich legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of melody, compassion, and cultural pride. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
