Three Dead, Two Injured in Pennsylvania Officer-Involved Shooting

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — A routine warrant service turned into tragedy Wednesday afternoon in North Codorus Township, leaving three people dead and two others injured in one of Pennsylvania’s deadliest law enforcement incidents in years.

Officials say the shooting occurred in the 1800 block of Haar Road when officers from the Northern York County Regional Police Department attempted to serve a warrant. A suspect opened fire, striking multiple officers before dying at the scene.

According to authorities, three people have died — including at least one police officer — and two more are wounded. Helicopters and multiple fire police units were dispatched to the rural area, and the York County Coroner confirmed it was called to the scene.

This marks the second officer-involved shooting involving Northern York County Regional Police in 2025. Multiple police and fire agencies across the state have offered condolences to the department and to the sheriff’s office.

At Least One Officer Dead, Several Wounded While Serving Warrant in York County

NORTH CODORUS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A warrant service in rural York County turned deadly Wednesday afternoon when gunfire erupted at a home on the 1800 block of Harr Road.

Authorities say five law enforcement officers were shot. At least one officer has died, three are in grave condition, and two others are being treated at local hospitals. The suspect, who was the subject of the warrant, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.

The shooting started around 2:10 p.m. and triggered a massive emergency response, including Pennsylvania State Police, county deputies, municipal police, and EMS crews. Medevac helicopters transported critically injured officers to trauma centers.

Nearby Spring Grove schools were briefly locked down as a precaution. Officials stressed that students and staff were safe and not directly involved.

Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. Austin Davis called for prayers for the wounded officers. The Mexican Consulate in Philadelphia said it was monitoring the situation because of the area’s large population of migrant farm workers.

By late Wednesday evening, the area was secured but still an active crime scene, with investigators from multiple agencies collecting evidence. Authorities have not released the names of the fallen officer or the deceased suspect.

The victim, Mark Arceta of Skokie, was driving to his final hospital shift before going on paternity leave when a getaway vehicle, fleeing the burglary, collided with his car.

The robbery occurred early Thursday morning on Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile. Thieves used a stolen pickup to crash into the store’s frontage, grabbed merchandise, then fled in several vehicles. One of those vehicles, a black Kia allegedly driven by 30-year-old Dejuan Wingard, was racing through traffic at around 77 mph when it struck Arceta’s Honda CR-V at the intersection of Michigan and Ohio Streets. Arceta was following traffic properly when the Kia slammed into him.

Arceta was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital but didn’t survive. His son was born the next day. His family describe him as deeply excited about the baby and looking forward to being there for his children.

Seven men have since been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, burglary, and retail theft. Authorities said the smash-and-grab was a coordinated theft, stealing nearly $700,000 in goods. Some of the suspects remain hospitalized; others are in custody awaiting court hearings.

Illinois State Sen. Meg Loughran Cappel’s Home Struck by Gunfire in Shorewood

Shorewood police say a shooting early Tuesday morning damaged Illinois State Sen. Meg Loughran Cappel’s home but was not politically motivated.

According to police, officers initially responded around 4:50 a.m. to reports of gunfire near Ca-Crest Drive and Highland Drive but found no damage or suspects. At 6:50 a.m., officers were called to the 500 block of Bethany Drive, where a home had been struck three times. No injuries were reported.

Shortly afterward, another resident on Northgate Lane reported discovering damage from a single gunshot. Investigators determined the same firearm was likely used in both incidents.

Using neighborhood surveillance video, police identified a vehicle and suspect, taking the person into custody later Tuesday morning.

Cappel confirmed on Facebook that one of the homes targeted was hers, saying her family was safe and condemning the violence.

The investigation is ongoing.
