Wisconsin Pizza Factory Worker Crushed to Death in Robotic Machine Accident
WEST MILWAUKEE, Wis. — A tragic industrial accident claimed the life of a pizza factory worker early Wednesday morning when he was fatally crushed by a robotic machine at Palermo’s Pizza facility.
The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Robert Cherone of Elkhorn. Authorities said the accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. Police and firefighters rushed to the plant after receiving emergency calls, but despite immediate life-saving measures, Cherone was pronounced dead at the scene.
The West Milwaukee Police Department confirmed that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office are assisting in the investigation. Details about how Cherone became trapped remain under review.
“The tragic accident that took an employee’s life earlier today is a terrible incident that is being fully investigated,” said Palermo’s spokesperson Rebecca Schimke in a statement. She added that the company is cooperating with authorities and will provide support and counseling to employees, as well as assistance to Cherone’s family.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Cherone served as a bakery manager at the facility and had years of experience in the food production industry. Colleagues remembered him for his dedication and leadership.
The Wisconsin State AFL-CIO also issued a statement, emphasizing the importance of workplace safety. “This tragic incident underscores the need for workers, employers, and government agencies to work together to ensure that everyone who goes to work comes home safely.”
