The South African entertainment and gospel community is mourning the loss of Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, the Ukhozi FM presenter and founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards, who passed away on Monday morning after a battle with lung cancer.
Her husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, announced her passing in a heartfelt statement.
“It’s with a heavy heart that we, the Nkambule and Mbokazi family, announce the passing of our beloved Ms. Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards & Ukhozi FM radio personality,” read the statement.
“We are grateful for all the prayers, love, and support we received throughout her illness. The family would appreciate privacy as we navigate through this challenging time,” he added.
Though diagnosed with lung cancer in May, signs of her illness became apparent in April. On Sunday, April 21, she was unable to host her show, Eshilo, on Ukhozi FM, and the following Sunday, she struggled to complete her broadcast, leading to her hospitalization.
She was 52 years old at the time of her passing.
